POTTERY | |
Louise has steadily gained a reputation for finely thrown white stoneware and porcelain, and made the techniques of incising and carving very much her own. Stylised images of animals and plants are cut freehand into the leather-hard clay and, after biscuit firing, are inlaid with eggshell smooth glazes maturing at 1280°C. In pleasing contrast to these animated pieces, there are those with simple wax-resist banding. Louise also makes a brush-decorated domestic range of pottery. Louise aims to achieve fine craftsmanship, with meticulous attention to detail, also surprise and humour. The sensitive balance between clay and glaze surfaces make Louise’s work pleasing to the hand and satisfying to the eye. A selection of Louise’s individual work is shown here. A wide range can be seen in her workshop showroom, where Louise welcomes visitors - by appointment please.
